In the summer of 2019 we made some improvements to the way Tiller fills transaction and balance data into Google Sheets. Rather than sheets being filled automatically by the "Feed Bot" they're now filled on demand by the Tiller Money Feeds add-on.

Benefits of the add-on approach

  1. Own your spreadsheet rather than Tiller being the Google Drive owner of your spreadsheet.

  2. Connect your financial data feeds to any Google Sheet, not just one of our templates.

  3. Improved Foundation Template for Google Sheets.

  4. A more powerful version of AutoCat for automated categorization, cleaning up descriptions, automatically applying tags and more.

  5. Track balances for manual accounts more seamlessly right from the add-on sidebar.

  6. Easily add the right solutions just for your financial situation into your Foundation template with the Tiller Community Solutions add-on.

  7. Refresh account connections, and enter 2FA codes, right from the add-on, if also on the YSL version of our data feeds.

  8. Offers a scalable and sustainable software engineering approach to filling Google Sheets with bank data that will allow Tiller to continue to grow and thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell which version I’m using?

Log in to the Tiller Console and take a look at your linked sheets. Under the sheet's name it will indicate if it's a Feed Bot or Feeds add-on sheet.

What's different that I should know about?

The main difference is that for the best experience you'll need to click the "fill sheets" button in the Tiller add-on to fill the data into your spreadsheet rather than it automatically filling into the spreadsheet each day.

We're aware this may seem like a "step backward" from the Feed Bot's automatic approach, but the automatic nature of the Feed Bot made it very hard to scale to a large user base and Tiller is growing. That's good for you because it means we'll stay in business and be able to keep feeding your data to your spreadsheet for years to come.

Do I need to create a new spreadsheet?

In 2022 we will be asking all customers who are primarily using sheets powered by the Feed Bot to transition to using Tiller Money Feeds and unlink any Feed Bot sheets no longer in use.

Will I lose all my categorized & custom data?

It's up to you, but this is a great opportunity to start fresh and not worry about migrating over your existing dataset.

If you really don't want to lose your dataset we have a tool to help you automate the migration of your data into the Foundation Template.

If you want to continue using the same template you'll need to make a copy of the Google Sheet and understand the support limitations and updates you'll need to make to get it to work with the Tiller Money Feeds add-on. We have some steps you can follow to help with that.

How can I start my transition?

If you have been on the new ("ysl") version of our data feeds since you started with Tiller (i.e. we haven't notified you since Feb 2022 that we also need to upgrade your bank data feeds) then you can follow the steps in this guide to get started.

If your bank data feeds are also being upgraded and you need to move to a Tiller Money Feeds sheet you can follow the steps in this guide to get started.

If you're unsure which of these applies to you, just send us a message using the chat tool in the lower right corner of this page.
