We gave upgraded all customers still on our older ("legacy") data feeds to the new ("YSL") version we offer for faster, more reliable, and more secure data feeds.

We'll also be asking that customers still using the Feed Bot to fill data into their Google Sheets transition to using the Tiller Money Feeds add-on for bank data fills into Google Sheets. There are many benefits to this approach, and it allows us to scale our service as we continue to grow.

What's involved in the upgrade?

  • Everyone previously on the legacy version of our data feeds has already been upgraded to the new version

  • All existing financial accounts you had connected are archived & will no longer refresh.

  • You need to re-add all financial institutions on the Console as new accounts so make sure you have the usernames and passwords handy.

  • Until you re-add at least one financial institution, you will not see your previously linked spreadsheets on the Console.

  • Your historical data for archived accounts is still available for linking into new spreadsheets.

  • There will be a 90 day overlap of duplicate transactions if the same spreadsheet is used.

  • Duplicated accounts will appear in your spreadsheet if the same spreadsheet is used.

  • You can start fresh in a new spreadsheet and only link YSL accounts to it to avoid duplicates.

  • You may also need to transition your Google Sheet to use Tiller Money Feeds during this upgrade process - you'll receive an email with the specifics if this applies to you.

  • We have a Tiller Migration Helper add-on for assisting with the duplicate transaction and account cleanup if you choose to use the same spreadsheet.

Why is this upgrade required?

The upgrade is required in order for Tiller to offer you the latest technology for banking data aggregation. It's faster, more reliable, and more secure that the previous version. All open banking enabled institutions are disabling their non-open baking connections and this affects all legacy customers that have these institutions connected.

Do I need to migrate off the Feed Bot?

This year we’ll also be asking all customers that are still using Feed Bot sheets to upgrade to using the latest version of our fill service, the Tiller Money Feeds add-on for Google Sheets by Dec 31, 2022.

This upgrade needs to happen before or at the same time as the bank connection upgrade if you are still using the older ("legacy") version of our data feeds. If this applies to you, your next steps email will include details on how to transition your spreadsheet.

You can check whether your sheet is powered by the Feed Bot or Tiller Money Feeds by visiting the Tiller Console at https://sheets.tillerhq.com/auth/login and reviewing the details under a spreadsheet's name.

Can I keep using the same spreadsheet?

We recommend that you start fresh in the Foundation Template as we're no longer supporting the older versions of our templates. However, we realize that you may have invested a lot of time and customizations into your existing spreadsheet and offer steps to help you update that spreadsheet to work with the Tiller Money Feeds add-on.

The transition guide to use will depend on whether or not you also need to work through the data feed upgrade steps. We will reach out with more information when it's time to upgrade or you can write to us at support@tillerhq.com to learn more if you'd like to go ahead and start your transition.

What are the benefits of using Tiller Money Feeds?

  1. Own your spreadsheet rather than Tiller owning your spreadsheet.

  2. Connect your financial data feeds to any Google Sheet.

  3. Start using our maintained and officially supported Foundation template for Google Sheets.

  4. A more powerful version of AutoCat for automated categorization, cleaning up descriptions, automatically applying tags and more.

  5. Track balances for manual accounts more seamlessly right from the add-on sidebar.

  6. Easily add the right solutions just for your financial situation into your Foundation template with the Tiller Community Solutions add-on.

  7. Refresh account connections, and enter 2FA codes, right from the add-on, if also on the YSL version of our data feeds.

  8. Offers a scalable and sustainable software engineering approach to filling Google Sheets with bank data that will allow Tiller to continue to grow and thrive.

What is different about Tiller Money Feeds that I should know about?

The way that Tiller Money Feeds updates your sheets is a little different than what you’re used to with the Feed Bot sheets.

The main difference is that you'll need to click the "fill" button in the Tiller Money Feeds add-on to fill the data into your spreadsheet rather than it automatically filling into the spreadsheet each day.

We're aware this may seem like a "step backward" from the Feed Bot's automatic approach, but the automatic nature of the Feed Bot made it very hard to scale to a large user base and Tiller is growing. That's good for you because it means we'll stay in business and be able to keep feeding your data to your spreadsheet for years to come.

If you have two factor authentication turned on for any of your bank accounts, any time you want to see recent data for those accounts you’ll want to re-authenticate them on the Tiller Console and then click "fill sheets" in the Tiller Money Feeds add-on sidebar.

Accounts that can automatically refresh without your intervention should have data available to fill when you launch the add-on from the Extensions menu.

For best results use this workflow each time you want to see new data in your sheet:

First, refresh your accounts...

  1. Log in to the Tiller Console at https://sheets.tillerhq.com/auth/google

  2. Scroll down to "Account Summary"

  3. Click the “Refresh” button next to an institution to open the refresh page. If you see "Error" instead of "Refresh" click "Connection > Edit credentials" to refresh your account.

  4. Follow the prompts to re-authenticate your account if necessary. In some cases, this may require you to re-enter credentials and/or enter security answers or codes.

  5. Wait for the refresh process to complete.

Next, fill your sheet...

  1. Open your Google Sheet

  2. Go to Extensions > Tiller Money Feeds > Launch

  3. Then in the sidebar click Fill
