How to move a new worksheet into your Tiller-powered Excel workbook

These steps can be used when you want to add a worksheet to your existing Tiller-powered workbook.

Use these steps when you want to move an Excel worksheet from one workbook to another.

Note: these steps only work in the Excel Desktop Application. There isn't a way to move or copy a tab between workbooks in Excel Online.

There are three parts to this process

  1. Downloading the workbook that has the worksheet/dashboard you're trying to use

  2. Moving the worksheet from the download to your Tiller-powered spreadsheet

  3. Updating the source for the referenced links

Note the "Edit Links" button is now called "Workbook links"

1. Download the workbook with the worksheet you want to move

Download the workbook that contains the worksheet you’d like to add to your Tiller-powered workbook.

2. Move the worksheet into your Tiller-powered spreadsheet

  1. Open your Tiller-powered Excel workbook.

  2. Open the workbook you just downloaded that contains the worksheet you're trying to add.

  3. Right click on the specific tab in the workbook you just downloaded that you want to move into your Tiller-powered workbook and click “Move or Copy”.

  4. In the “To book” dropdown, select your Tiller spreadsheet.

  5. Leave the “Create a copy” checkbox unchecked.

  6. In the “Before sheet” dropdown, select “(move to end)” or choose which tab you'd like to add it before, then click OK.

  7. Click "Yes to all" if you get a prompt about named ranges

  8. If you get an error about needing one visible sheet, just click okay and right click the tab you're trying to move and choose "Unhide" and unhide a hidden sheet then try again with step 3 above.

3. Update the reference links for the new worksheet

Now that you've got the new tab in your workbook, you may notice that it's referencing data that's not yours or no data at all. That's because the formulas are still referencing the source workbook. You need to use the steps below to "edit links" and update the references to use your workbook.

  1. Navigate to the “Data” ribbon and click the "Workbook links" button

  2. Click the "..." in the sidebar and choose "Change Source"

  3. Navigate to the active workbook (i.e. select the spreadsheet you just copied the new worksheet into). This will point the references back to the new sheet.

    1. On Windows you may see it in the "Recent" section and you can click on the workbook and then click "Select" or you may need to click "Browse" and find the workbook on your computer.

At this point your new worksheet should be functional and linked to your local workbook’s data.
