The dashboard on the Budget sheet is where the magic happens. At the top of this budget dashboard you’ll choose the time period that you’d like to use for your budget. You can choose a monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly or a custom time period for your budget. 

From there you’ll get a view of your planned spending, your actual spending (once you’ve categorized some spending on the transactions sheet) for the selected period, and what’s remaining organized by type, group and category. You’ll see a progress bar showing your actual spending against your planned spending. 

You can adjust your planned spending amounts using the light green cells in the “New Plan” column for each category. Finally, if you’ve categorized enough data, you’ll see the actuals from the prior period. For example, if you have your period set to monthly, you’ll see the actuals for the previous month. 

Budget Insights

The right hand section of the Budget dashboard gives you some useful information about your budget. 

Needs Categorizing 

Reminds you if you have transactions for the selected period that need to be categorized on the Transactions sheet.

Net Cash Flow 

Gives you insight into how much money is left over after your spending compared against your earned income so far this period and your expected cash flow for the month.

Expense Budget Remaining 

Shows the percentage of your planned expense budget you’ve already spent for this period and how many days are left in the period.
